With China recently announcing a ban on ivory imports for the next year, we are delighted to welcome to Sauder Alumni Beijing the founder of Elephant Earth which raises funds and awareness for projects in India, Southeast Asia and Africa to improve captive elephant welfare and mitigate the challenges facing elephants in the wild.
For veterinarian/photographer Dag Goering and celebrated writer Maria Coffey, life, work and art are inseparable. Goering’s art installation, Elephant Enigma, has been presented in prestigious venues across North America, India and in Italy, along with Elephant Earth seminars featuring prominent experts. His images have also been widely published in books and prominent newspapers and magazines such as National Geographic Adventure, National Geographic Traveler, Elle Magazine and The New York Times.
The couple co-authored Visions of the Wild, about their kayak circumnavigation of Vancouver Island, and Coffey has written eleven other internationally published books, including Where the Mountain Casts its Shadow, which won the Banff Mountain Literature Prize as well as the National Outdoor Book Award. Her latest book, Explorers of the Infinite, was endorsed by Oprah Winfrey. Dag and Maria are presently co-writing a book about their journey into the world of elephants.
